Tears After Smiles
The strong wind blew as the darkness slowly covers the whole campus. It was forty-five minutes passed 6 pm when the glee club was done of their practice.
As the 13-year-old Mary walked through the lobby to get her things in their classroom, she noticed that there is no one, aside from her, in that building. She was trembling in fear. Without any hesitations, she ran with her eyes closed through the lobby. Few steps away, she bumped into a 14-year-old guy. He was a sophomore just like Mary but from the other section. His name was Franz.
Mary slowly opened her eyes to see the young heartthrob staring at her, smiling. They haven’t talked ever since.
“Are you alright?” Franz asked her but she only nodded her head.
“Excuse me.” She tried to leave. But deep inside, she was very happy.
That was the first time they have talked.
Though their conversation was not that long, she treasured it. Honestly, she really likes Franz. The thing she didn’t know is that Franz likes her too. Amazing right? She didn’t know that Franz has been asking her friends about her. What she likes, what kind of girl she is, and what does she hates. She didn’t know that Franz is very eager to know her well. She didn’t know that Franz really likes her.
For few months, Franz was hanging out with Mary’s friends and until they became close friends. Still, Mary and Franz haven’t talked to each other though they have the same “barkada”. Mary was very shy to talk to him. It was very unusual since Mary is well-known because of her splendid way of talking. She is really talkative but in a nice way.
They’ve been teased a lot. But Mary still can’t get it. Until their life being a sophomore ended.
Franz has been courting Mary ever since they were still sophomores. But Mary just can’t see it. She was blind. Blind in the sense that she’s trying to ignore it because she doesn’t like Franz to be her boyfriend. Or did she? Actually, she was just afraid to trust guys. She was afraid to get hurt. Although she knew deep in her heart that Franz is someone special, she still ignored all what Franz has done.
But one cannot control love. One does not choose whom he or she will love or, when he or she will love.I believe in destiny. To love someone is not a planned situation; it is an incident that is destined to happen. But not all love that seemed to be perfect has happy endings.
Junior life is fast approaching. Mary was much exited. Through the summer, she thought of the things that made her confused for the last school year. One of those is her feelings for Franz. She realized that she is willing to get hurt if that will mean she will be with that very someone she truly loves. Yes, she loves Franz. She admitted it to her self.
Junior life has started. Franz was still courting Mary.
It was July 8, 2006, the special day. It was this day Mary said “yes” to Franz. It was this day that their most memorable moments in high school began.
It turned days and weeks and months. They were very happy. Their love was perfect. Or it just seemed to be perfect.
Love conquers all. But what if you have the right love at the wrong time? What if you are just not meant for each other? What if your parents are the hindrance? Will you choose the one you love and fight for him or her even though you know that it is against the will of your parents? Will you? Each one of us has priorities. And it is just right to place our family as our first priority after Him.But let’s admit to our selves that our own priorities set us to confusions.It is because of our own rules that we get sad and lonely.
Eighteen days before their first anniversary, Franz broke up with Mary. It was very hard for Mary to accept it. The reasons were not so clear. But Mary knew that it is because his parents told him to. Their families were not in favor of their relationship. It is because they’re too young. And Mary is pretty sure that there are still other reasons. But her questions were not answered. She’s afraid to ask because she’s afraid to worsen the pain she feels.
They really love each other.
Until now, they’re still not over it.
It is surely difficult to forget someone that has been a very special part of your life. Not all love which seemed to be perfect can have a happy ending. Not all lovers are successful in fighting for their love. Happy endings are just for fairytales.
And the truth,
Love surely hurts.
